Redskins overcome slow start, top Pana

NEW BERLIN — Taylorville’s Blake Beckley secures the pin against Jacksonville in Tuesday night’s meet against the Crimsons and the New Berlin Pretzels.

Neither team scored for more than three minutes to start the contest on Tuesday night when the Nokomis Redskins hosted the Pana Panthers on the hardwood.

The Lincolnwood Lancers traveled to Gillespie on Tuesday night to face off against the Miners. After playing even in the first quarter, the Miners doubled-up the Lancer scoring in the second quarter and widened their margin before winning 50-39.

Terry Todt, originally from Raymond, was honored with a shootout dedicated in his name on Saturday. Todt, broadcaster for WSMI radio, was diagnosed with cancer and had always wanted to see a shootout held in his area. The more games in a day, the better.

NEW BERLIN — Taking a 26-9 point advantage in one quarter helped the North Mac Panthers defeat the Lincolnwood Lancers on Friday in the fourth game of the Thanksgiving Tournament held at New Berlin. The Panthers continued their scoring into the second half and won 63-35.

RAYMOND — ”We lost four components of our senior team last year, so we’ll have a different look for sure,” said Lincolnwood Basketball Coach Matt Millburg. “We lost our leading scorers Matt Mizera and Ryan Poggenpohl, our ball handler in Tanner Millburg, and we also lost Adam Deal to graduation who brought some good size and a physical presence for us.”

II was third, Y-Zoe’s and T’Ville K.C. were tied for fourth, Jandi Services ended in sixth, CTI Fiber was seventh, Wendy’s and Lumb Restorations ended tied for eighth, Taylorville Moose was 10, Andy’s Market was 11, and Solid 9 Pro Shop finished 12.
