Taylorville Memorial Hospital golf outing winners
RIGHT — Taylorville Memorial Hospital held it’s annual golf outing at Lakeshore Golf Course on Saturday. The Auxillary Board donated $20,000 to the hospital which will be used to renovate and relocate the Jesus statue with the new hospital project and will also be used to relandscape a new entrace that will help rehab patients learn to walk on different surfaces including grass, rocks, and cement. TAYLORVILLE — Taylorville officially hired its new cheerleading coach in the middle of May, and she is familiar to Tornado Nation. Kylie Daley cheered for the Tornadoes when she was in high school and then went on to cheer at Parkland college for one year afterward.

Major League Baseball stadiums are designed around an optimal viewing experience for the fans; sometimes that makes them look smaller than they are, at least from the stands. From the field, though, the view is a towering spectacle of steel and concrete amidst a seemingly endless sea of grass. Just ask the Tornado baseball team; they got a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity Tuesday to play in one of the premier major-league stadiums, Busch Stadium in St. Louis.

Woods signs with Illinois Wesleyan

TAYLORVILLE — Kyle Woods signed his letter of intent to play football at Illinois Wesleyan on Friday. He will join a Titan squad that went 9-2 last year.

Woods, a linebacker for the Tornadoes, finished last season with 164 tackles, three forced fumbles, three fumble recoveries, and 12 Big Hit plays; all categories that he led in for the Darkside.

“(I think) that Wesleyan suited me best and when I visited, I really liked the campus and the campus was really welcoming. I thought the players were really cool and I had a lot of fun on my overnight visit,” said Woods.

Woods then went on to describe that the team has a lot of culture and a lot of talent. “I think that I will eventually make an impact while I am there,” said Woods.

It started out warm and sunny on Wednesday at three o’clock when the meet started, but by the time the meet ended, it was a little colder and a little wetter. Around six o’clock, the thunder started rumbling and the officials put the meet in a delay because where there is thunder, there is lightening. The rain began pouring around ten after six, and the track was clear with the last rumble coming at twenty after.

One day removed from the varsity Apollo Conference meet, the Tornadoes hosted the Fresh/Soph Apollo conference meet on Saturday. The Tornado boys finished in fifth with 53 points and the Tornado girls were sixth with 31 points.

Scott Hill, former Taylorville Tornado, received three high honors last Wednesday for his bowling accomplishments throughout his college career. Hill was named MVP for the 2017-2018 season by the National Collegiate Bowling Coaches Association, was named an All-American by the same organization, and was also named Collegiate Bowler of the Year from the International Bowling Media Association.

The Taylorville Tornado baseball team traveled to Rochester on Monday to face off against an old foe. The Tornadoes were able to start their scoring early, getting two runs in the second inning, but the Rockets had the answers as they would comeback with five of their own in the same inning.

The Taylorville Tornado baseball team ran into the Mahomet-Seymour Bulldogs on Saturday, as they came into town for an afer double-header. Something didn’t seem right about the Tornadoes on Saturday and they would fall 13-3 and 11-0.

THS soccer now has winningest season in THS history
TAYLORVILLE — The Taylorville Tornadoes picked up their third win of the season as they defeated Metro East Lutheran on Friday night. This year’s Tornadoes team moves to 3-9-2 on the season, which makes this year the winningest year in Taylorville history; the previous best was 2-15 in the 2005-2006 season.

Jaris Wommack, a 2007 THS graduate, was a three year starter for the Tornadoes basketball team and a two years starter at wide receiver on the football team. During the 2006 football season, Wommack led the team in receiving and was selected to the Central State Eight All-Conference Team.

THS sports hall of fame
Linda Prasun, a 1983 THS graduate, was a four year letter winner in basketball and won two letters in track. A starting guard on the Lady Tornadoes inaugural season in 1979, Prasun scored the very first basket in girls’ basketball history against the Mt Zion Lady Braves. She went on to score 119 points in a short 14 game season and followed that with 390 points in 1980-81.
