The junior high Tornado cross country team traveled to Clinton on Saturday for the Clinton Invitational. The results were as follows:

For the girls varsity race: Ella Goodman ran a time of 14:40 for ninth place, Alyvia McCollough ran a 15:29 to finish 17, Hallie Smith had a 15:46 to finish 19, Ella Moreland ran a 15:51 to finish 20, Sophie Ward ran a 16:15 to finish 27, and Anna Goodman ran a 16:25 to finish 30.

THS baseball holding alumni game Saturday
The Taylorville baseball team will hold an alumni game in Taylorville on Saturday, August 11 at 5:30 p.m. This will now be the second year in a row that the Tornadoes are hosting an alumni game. Last  year’s game featured about 30 players from as far back as the 1970’s and was the first alumni game held under head coach Brian Sample who said he wanted to build the tradition.

The THS dance team was at the University of Illinois July 27 through July 30 for the UDA Dance Camp. The team brought home a Superior Champion Trophy, Drill Down Queen honors, a coaches award, a blue ribbon for their home routine, 34 different blue ribbons for dances learned and performed at the camp, and both the regular and super spirit stick.

Stock car racing action thrills fairgoers Wednesday
“In the four years I’ve been associated with racing at the Christian County Fair, this was the best racing I’ve seen,” said Track Enterprises’ Adam Mackey of Wednesday night’s stock car racing event at the Christian County Fair track. “The racing was great, very clean, and the track was really good.”

This year’s Christian County Fair stock car race will have a new addition, a prerace autograph meet-and-greet behind the main grandstands.  It’s all part of the Larry’s Service Center NAPA Tripleheader of racing this coming Wednesday night in Taylorville, IL.  The 5:30 autograph session precedes the on track action which will begin with hotlaps at 6:20 and racing at 7:00.

Major League Baseball stadiums are designed around an optimal viewing experience for the fans; sometimes that makes them look smaller than they are, at least from the stands. From the field, though, the view is a towering spectacle of steel and concrete amidst a seemingly endless sea of grass. Just ask the Tornado baseball team; they got a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity Tuesday to play in one of the premier major-league stadiums, Busch Stadium in St. Louis.

Woods signs with Illinois Wesleyan

TAYLORVILLE — Kyle Woods signed his letter of intent to play football at Illinois Wesleyan on Friday. He will join a Titan squad that went 9-2 last year.

Woods, a linebacker for the Tornadoes, finished last season with 164 tackles, three forced fumbles, three fumble recoveries, and 12 Big Hit plays; all categories that he led in for the Darkside.

“(I think) that Wesleyan suited me best and when I visited, I really liked the campus and the campus was really welcoming. I thought the players were really cool and I had a lot of fun on my overnight visit,” said Woods.

Woods then went on to describe that the team has a lot of culture and a lot of talent. “I think that I will eventually make an impact while I am there,” said Woods.
