Tornadoes vanquish IVC Grey Ghosts 57-30, move to 2nd round
Taylorville quarterback Brandon Odam scans the interior of the Grey Ghost defense, nothing there. He looks to his checkdown; wide receiver Yemi Odugbesan has a sliver of space, but that’s usually enough. Odam pulls the trigger on the out route; the catch, good. Odugbesan makes one defender miss, turns upfield, tries to evade the second, and eyes an oncoming third. He’s got nowhere to go. He throws a desperation juke move in his fight for a few more inches. The ball squirts loose on impact, though, and it’s a scramble; four guys vying for a loose ball inside the space of what seems to be the size of a phone booth. Arms flail; it’s chaos. Odugbesan slides out of view on the wet turf; surely this ball now belongs to the Ghosts. On the peripheral now, Odugbesan is clawing at the turf to get back to his feet, seething with urgency. The football still pinballs around the legs of the Ghost defenders, and, like a missile, Odugbesan flies back into the pile. He’s locked on target, and, against all odds, he comes up with the football. The Tornadoes retain possession.

MacArthur Generals topple Tornado soccer 10-0
DECATUR — Taylorville traveled to Decatur MacArthur Wednesday to take on the Generals on the soccer pitch.

Injuries have slimmed the Tornado ranks, and Taylorville entered the contest with only  one substitute. Sean Smith also went down with what was believed to be  a minor injury in the second half, so Taylorville’s eleven were on the field constantly.

“These guys are playing hard all the way through, and that’s not easy when you’re as short handed as we are,” Taylorville Soccer Head Coach Tim Karbach said.

MacArthur was able to jump out to an early lead in the contest as they opened up a 6-0 lead at halftime. Several of the General scores came after Taylorville attacked the net and produced a shot on goal. “We seem to have a problem when we have good offensive motion, we have problems marking up and getting back on defense. That happened to us tonight,” Karbach said of the way the game went.

“We’ve been able to keep a positive attitude, and they’re working hard and improving. It may not show it on the scoreboard, but we’re heading in the right direction,” Karbach concluded of what would be a 10-0 finish.
