Tornado XC wraps up season at Sectional meet
It was the longest trip of the season for the Tornado cross country team on Saturday as they made the two-hour journey to Olney Central College to compete in the final race of their season. The Tornado girls, who qualified as a team for the first time in five years, and Chris Cherry and Evan Morgan fought in a tough field of runners.

The format was different than it had been all season to be able to stay in compliance with IDPH and IHSA guidelines for the number of runners in one race. The top runners and the individuals that qualified ran in the first race, the number-two and number-three runners ran in the second race, the number-four and number-five runners ran in the third race, and then the number-six and number-seven runners ran in the fourth race.

With the way the team qualified out of their Regional, that put senior Alerina Letniku racing by herself in the first race for the girls. “Alerina is our leader. She may not have been the top runner all season, but she has a unique leadership that really helped our team a lot this season,” said Taylorville head coach Steve Walters.
