Glenwood snipes Taylorville 60-46 in regional play

Bergschneider bounds past Ridley's scoring record
For the better part of 70 years, Bill Ridley’s 1,731 career points for Taylorville basketball stood as the benchmark by which all other Tornadoes were measured. Records, though, as they say, are meant to be broken, and, on Tuesday night, Taylorville senior Jase Bergschneider eclipsed that legendary threshold with a 23-point performance in a 60-38 win over Auburn.

Bergschneider’s 1,742 and counting is now the new gold standard. His approach to the milestone, however, was anything but standard Tuesday night, and the moment itself was definitely golden, almost literally.

XFL re-do better than the original
The XFL part-one wasn’t great. In 2001, an eight-team league partnership between the WWE and NBC wanted to rival the NFL and try to “cash in” on the popularity and success of both football and wrestling at the time.

That first venture did bring innovations and new ways to view the game, including the now popular skycam that has infiltrated the NFL, but the original XFL tied too much into wrestling and “Sports Entertainment” and lacked a focus on the games. The talent also just wasn’t there.
