Field of Digital Dreams
Taylorville’s Jackson Tex belted a clutch two-run double in the top of the sixth inning, and Caden Mileham tossed a five-strikeout gem Thursday as the Tornadoes rallied past cross-county rival Morrisonville by a final of 3-1. With a one-two-three seventh inning, Taylorville sealed the victory and brought a capacity crowd to its feet with a thunderous applause, shaking the foundations of the Arizona Diamondback’s Chase Field in the process.

It was all a virtual simulation of course, but, right-now, even make believe baseball is better than no baseball at all, and now the Tornadoes and the Mohawks can say they’ve joined the likes of March Madness, the NBA, and NASCAR, which have all turned to virtual competitions amid a nationwide sports hiatus.

To conduct this virtual showdown, the Breeze-Courier compiled player stats from the 2019 season via GameChanger and inputted them into MLB: The Show for the Playstation 4.

Former THS star, Jaylynn Stewart, to helm Eureka basketball
Jaylynn Stewart, a two-time All-Stater for the Lady Tornado basketball program, was hired as the Eureka women’s basketball head coach last Thursday. Stewart will become the 13th head coach of Eureka College and will be taking over her first collegiate program.

Stewart played for the Tornadoes from 2005 to 2009 under then head coach Carey McVickers. “I was able to be recognized because I played on such talented teams with so many talented teammates, and because of our success, I was able to be seen on a state level. Being named All-State was an honor, and it really helped open a lot of doors for me in terms of my recruiting,” said Stewart.

Glenwood snipes Taylorville 60-46 in regional play
In a bid to keep their season alive, the Tornado basketball team rattled off two pretty impressive runs in the second half of Tuesday’s regional matchup with the Chatham Glenwood Titans.
