Illinois State Museum Taking Shape family event July 20
SPRINGFIELD, Ill. — Families are invited to take part in art and science activities at the “Taking Shape Family Event” on Saturday, July 20 from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. at the Illinois State Museum in Springfield.
Shapes are the basic components for many works of art and can be found in many scientific applications, too. Children and parents will enjoy activities such as creating a constantly changing mosaic on the Museum’s exterior walls, making shape-filled slime, creating a work of art inspired by a piece from the Museum’s collection, and constructing sculptures. There will be a search activity that invites visitors to locate shapes throughout the Museum’s exhibitions. Families will also be able to register for door prizes that will continue the shape-filled fun at home.
The event is free with Museum admission, which is $5 for adults ages 19-64 and is free for youth, seniors, and veterans. Adults can also purchase a Museum Summer Pass for $10 for free unlimited admission through Labor Day. All Family Event activities are recommended for ages 5 and up with an accompanying adult.
The Illinois State Museum is located at 502 South Spring Street in Springfield in the State Capitol Complex. The Museum is open Monday through Saturday from 9:00 a.m. until 4:30 p.m. and Sunday from 12:00 p.m. until 4:30 p.m.
