SPRINGFIELD — On Monday, August 12, the Illinois Department on Aging (IDoA) will host a variety of activities for seniors, their families and friends during Senior Day at the Illinois State Fair. Events hosted by IDoA will be held in the air-conditioned Illinois Building located near the fairground's main gate. Fairgoers 60 years of age and older will be admitted to the fair for free.
"The Fair is a blend of tradition and innovation that never grows old. It's both educational and entertaining, drawing folks from farms, small towns, suburbs and cities. From the carnival rides to the livestock competitions, it's where all Illinoisans come together for 10 days and provides the state with a tremendous opportunity to showcase itself," said Paula Basta, Director of IDoA. "The Fair is a time to celebrate our agricultural traditions, the uniqueness of our state, and today to celebrate seniors! I would like to highlight our partner agencies that are keeping everyone engaged today while offering valuable information about programs and services for older adults and their families."
