Trial date for man accused of beating infant vacated
The trial of a 30-year-old Taylorville man accused of beating his four-month-old son in early July, will not face trial in November as scheduled. The ruling came today during a pre-trial hearing in Christian County Court.

Benavides moving to Christian County Correctional Center
Fourth Judicial Circuit Court Judge Christopher Matoush has ordered Anthony D. Benavides, 22, of Pana, to be remanded to the custody of the Christian County Sheriff’s Department in the Christian County Correctional Center. The order was given today during a pre-trial hearing. Special Conflict’s Public Defender Tom Finks had made the request earlier in order to have closer access to his client as they prepare for trial. Benavides had been held in the custody of the Illinois Department of Corrections in Graham Correctional Center in Hillsboro.

Morrissey murder trial moved to December
The murder trial of Quinton L. Morrissey, 19, of Pana will now begin on Dec. 1, 2018, at 8:30 a.m. Morrissey appeared in court today with public defender Greg Grigsby, who requested to delay. There was no objection by the state.

State rests case in Larry Scott trial
Testimony continued in the trial of Larry Scott Friday in Christian County Court. Scott is accused of attempted murder from an incident which occurred Sept. 14, 2017.

By mid-afternoon Friday, the state rested its case against the 35-year-old from Springfield. He is accused of firing two shots late in the evening of Sept. 14, and struck Logan Durbin of Bulpitt. Defense Attorney Tom Finks is set to begin his side of the case Monday morning at nine o’clock.

The man who suffered gun shot wounds during an altercation in a Pana residence on Monday, June 25, has been released from the hospital. Theodore M. Fleming, 35, of Taylorville, was then arrested and charged in a two-count indictment with unlawful use/possession of a weapon and home invasion with a dangerous weapon.
