Info sought in local criminal damage to vehicle
This week Crimestoppers is seeking information in regards to criminal damage that occurred in Taylorville.

Sometime between 8:00 pm on Saturday, May 1, 2021 and the morning of Sunday, May 2, 2021, an unknown subject loosened the lugnuts on a vehicle that was parked at 307 North Pershing Avenue. The vehicle's tire fell off while the victim was driving, damaging the wheel and rim. The victim was not injured. The total dollar amount of the damage is not available at this time.

Information sought in Taylorville criminal damages
This week Crimestoppers is seeking information in regards to criminal damage that occurred in Taylorville.

Sometime during the early morning hours of Sunday, April 25, 2021, person or persons unknown used a BB gun to damage 3 vehicles that were parked in the 500 block of West Third Street. A residence, located at 502 West Third Street, was also struck. It appears that the damage could have been done from a vehicle traveling down the roadway. The total dollar amount of the damage is not available at this time.

This week Crimestoppers is seeking information in regards to a hit and run that occurred in Taylorville.

Sometime during the early morning hours of Monday, April 5, 2021, an unknown vehicle struck a vehicle in the 300 block of North Clay Street and then left the scene. The victim’s vehicle suffered damage to the side of the vehicle. The suspect vehicle left the scene in an unknown direction. The total dollar amount of the damage is unknown at this time.

Inmate found unresponsive at jail
TAYLORVILLE — On April 15, 2021 at approximately 4:52 p.m. an inmate at the Christian County Sheriff’s Office Jail was found unresponsive by a correctional officer, while completing a standard administrative procedure. Life saving measures were performed by the Jail nurse along with the correctional officers. The inmate was immediately transported to the Taylorville Memorial Hospital by ambulance. The inmate was pronounced deceased by medical personal at 6 p.m.

Information sought in Taylorville hit and run
This week Crimestoppers is seeking information in regards to a hit and run that occurred in Taylorville.

Sometime during the early morning hours of Saturday, April 10, 2021, an unknown vehicle struck a deer stand that was on the property of Route 29 Kustoms, located at 1110 North Cheney Street. The unknown vehicle then left the scene heading south on Cheney Street. The stand and moorings were damged. The total dollar amount of the damage unkown at this time.

Pana man guilty, aggravated fleeing
A jury deliberated 10 minutes before finding Brian M. Mahnke, Pana, guilty of aggravated fleeing or attempting to elude a peace officer, a Class 4 felony.

According to Shelby County State’s Attorney Nichole Kroncke, Mahnke failed to appear in court and the trial proceeded in his absence.

Driver involved in deadly car crash posts bond
Robert R. Hodson, 46, Taylorville, has been released from Christian County Jail after posting $200,000 cash bond (10% cash applies). He was charged Friday with Aggravated Driving Under the Influence Involving Death, following a accident Thursday night in which two individuals were killed.

Bond set for Hodson
On Friday, April 9, 2021, at approximately 1:00 p.m., Illinois State Police (ISP) Division of Criminal Investigation (DCI) Zone 4 and ISP District 9 arrested Robert Hodson after being discharged from a local hospital.  

Hodson was charged with 625 ILCS 5/11-501(d)(1)(F) Aggravated Driving Under the Influence Involving Death (Class 2 Felony). The penalty for this offense carries a term of imprisonment not less than six years and not more than 28 years since it involved the death of more than one person.

Two killed in deadly crash on Ill. Rt. 48, alcohol involved
There was a two vehicle fatal crash on Illinois Route 48 near E 1550 N near Taylorville. The crash happened around 11:04 p.m. on April 8.

The driver of the first vehicle was Robert M. Hodson, a 46-year-old male from Taylorville, who was transported by ambulance to an area hospital with serious injuries. The second driver was a 19-year-old female from Taylorville who was pronounced deceased on scene. Identification is pending notification.

 A 19-year-old female passenger from Lafayette, Ind., was transported by ambulance to an area hospital with life-threatening-injuries. Identification withheld due to the severity of her injuries. The second passenger was an unidentified male who was pronounced deceased on scene.

At around 7:25 p.m. on Sunday, March 7, 2021, an unknown vehicle rear ended a vehicle near the intersection of Cherokee and Ash Streets. The suspect vehicle then left the scene heading northbound on Cherokee Street. The suspect vehicle is described as a gray SUV. The total dollar amount of the damage is unknown at this time.

Taylorville man charged with reckless homicide in Moultrie County
Moultrie County State’s Attorney Tracy Weaver has charged a Taylorville man with reckless homicide in connection with an August 2020 car-motorcycle accident.

According to the release from the state’s attorney’s office, Dylan Tucker, 25, was charged with one count of reckless homicide along with numerous traffic offenses from a traffic crash which happened Aug. 19, 2020. The accident happened at Moultrie County Road 400E and 2400N. Tucker is accused of driving at an excessive rate of speed and failed to stop at the intersection which resulted in a crash with a motorcycle driven by Michael Castelli, 52, of Lovington. Castelli died as a result of the accident.

Sometime between 10:30 p.m. and 12:30 a.m. on Wednesday, March 17, 2021, an unknown vehicle struck a vehicle in the parking lot of the Funky Monkey Bar, located at 2100 West Spresser Street. The suspect vehicle then left the scene in an unknown direction. The victim’s vehicle suffered damage to the driver’s side of the vehicle. The total dollar amount of the damage is unknown at this time.

TPD arrests two on drug and weapons charges
The Taylorville Police Department (TPD) initiated an investigation into an alleged narcotic location on the 900 Block of W. Rich Street. TPD had received complaints from neighbors about traffic in and out of the location frequently. TPD began to look into the location and observed the same. TPD is responsible for quality of life for our families, and living next to or around that area was an issue that needed to be addressed, TPD Chief Dwayne Wheeler stated.  

 On March 22, 2021, TPD was able to obtain a search warrant at that location after a series of events and resources. TPD initiated the warrant late into the night. This investigation is continuing and other co-conspirators are being investigated.

Suspect arrested after Pana shooting
The Illinois State Police and the Pana Police Department responded to a call of shots fired at 200 North 2375 East Road at approximately 9:57 a.m. Sunday morning.

According to the police report, a 17-year-old male victim was shot during an altercation and was transported to an area hospital. The victim was listed in serious condition, according to the report.
