Larry Scott sentencing hearing delayed
A sentencing hearing for Larry L. Scott, 36, of Springfield, has been delayed. He was convicted of attempted first degree murder on July 23, 2018, in the shooting and severely wounding of Logan Durbin of Kincaid in an incident which happened on Sept. 14, 2017, in Kincaid

Court dates set in residential counselor sex abuse case
First appearance in court with counsel for Christopher J. Wessling, 30, who is accused of 11 counts of criminal sexual abuse and aggravated criminal sexual abuse was held today in Christian County Court. Six of the counts are for aggravated sexual abuse, which are Class 2 felonies and the other five are criminal sexual abuse charges, which are Class 1 felonies.

On October 9, 2018, Algernon C. Perkins, 32, of Alorton, Illinois made his initial appearance in federal court in the Southern District of Illinois on federal charges of interference with commerce by robbery.

Man charged in 11-count sex abuse case
Christopher J. Wessling, 30, Kincaid, has been charged with 11 counts of criminal sexual abuse or aggravated criminal sexual abuse to a victim younger than 17. Wessling was arrested by Christian County deputies on a Christian County warrant on Tuesday, and he appeared in court today via video conference before Christian County Resident Fourth Judicial Circuit Court Judge Brad Paisley.

Benavides trial is moved to December
The trial of a Pana man accused of shooting a Taylorville man in June has been postponed until December. Without objection, Fourth Circuit Court Judge Christopher Matoush set the new trial date for Dec. 3, 2018, at 8:30 a.m. The trial had been scheduled to start Oct. 1.

Home detention ordered for juvenile who made gun threat
Following the completion of a mental assessment of a 15-year-old male juvenile Taylorville High School student, Judge Allan Lolie decided to allow him to remain under home confinement at least until his new court date. The assessment found he was not a danger to himself or others at this time.

Trial date for man accused of beating infant vacated
The trial of a 30-year-old Taylorville man accused of beating his four-month-old son in early July, will not face trial in November as scheduled. The ruling came today during a pre-trial hearing in Christian County Court.

Benavides moving to Christian County Correctional Center
Fourth Judicial Circuit Court Judge Christopher Matoush has ordered Anthony D. Benavides, 22, of Pana, to be remanded to the custody of the Christian County Sheriff’s Department in the Christian County Correctional Center. The order was given today during a pre-trial hearing. Special Conflict’s Public Defender Tom Finks had made the request earlier in order to have closer access to his client as they prepare for trial. Benavides had been held in the custody of the Illinois Department of Corrections in Graham Correctional Center in Hillsboro.

The murder trial of Quinton L. Morrissey, 19, of Pana will now begin on Dec. 1, 2018, at 8:30 a.m. Morrissey appeared in court today with public defender Greg Grigsby, who requested to delay. There was no objection by the state.
