On a lovely day in 1941, Swiss inventor George de Mestral took his dog out for a walk. When he arrived home, George noticed that both he and his dog were covered in sticky little thistle burrs. The Grace Baptist Church in Taylorville will be offering a special reading class to encourage kids in kindergarten through second grade to fall in love with reading.

TAYLORVILLE — During this time of year, I keep a small space heater running in my office whenever I’m there, just to knock the chill off. It automatically turns on and off during the day depending on how warm I want the office to be. When the heater comes on, I notice the sound of the fan, but after a few seconds, minutes at most, I forget that it is running as I focus on the tasks at hand. The heater becomes background noise.
