Several years ago, a familiar transition was taking place in our nation’s capital as a new president was being sworn in to his position. Traditionally, the departing president will leave a special note of congratulations and encouragement for the incoming president. Something unique happened In this case as the departing president’s daughters left a special note for the incoming first-daughters. In an open letter that was published in the Wall Street Journal, Jenna and Barbara Bush wrote to Sasha and Malia Obama about what to expect in the days ahead as children of the President. Sometimes Christians have this sense that because we’re following Jesus, life should be easy. In fact, we even take that a step further: we believe that difficulty in life can be a sign that we are not following Jesus closely enough. God must not be at work in our lives because we have somehow displeased him. We reason that if God was happy with us, he would bless us. Friday, June 4, 2021

Along the western coast of South America, there’s a vast desert that is unimaginably dry. In fact, the Atacama Desert in Chile is said to be among the driest places on earth. According to Reuters, the arid climate in the Atacama allows scientists to use the region as a way to gain insight about what life and living conditions might possibly be like on Mars. However, typically every five to seven years something amazing happens in this parched wilderness. A brief, uncommon period of rain will come across the desert, and seeds buried in the nutrient-scarce soil germinate and flower. And for a few weeks, the desert floor is carpeted with a beautiful landscape of vibrant blossoming plants. It’s referred to as the "desierto florido" (flowering desert). The spectacular colors of white, purple, and yellow, draw visitors and botanists from Chile and around the world. It truly is an amazing sight to behold. Friday, April 9, 2021
